On Sunday morning we held our last session of VBS. We studied John 21:1-17 and learned that GOD SENDS. Our final lesson was "Breakfast on the Beach" with Jesus and his disciples where we learned about God's love and care for us. Because God loves us more than we can imagine, we need to share that message with others. God sent Jesus into the world to preach and to teach, to help and to heal. Jesus sent his followers, Peter and the other disciples, to help others realize how amazing God's love is.
On Thursday, we celebrated an awesome week of VBS with our pool party at the Keyser pool. Over 200 surfers showed up to celebrate a great week of VBS.
On Wednesday, 106 surfers stopped by the Surf Shack to hang ten. We studied Luke 8:22-25, learning that GOD CALMS. Once again our lesson has Jesus getting wet as he joins his disciples in a boat sailing across the Sea of Galilee. A big storm comes up and things get really rough while Jesus is sound asleep. No matter what we are doing or going through, God is helping us, cheering us on, holding our hands, keeping us calm, and giving us peace. God demonstrated this in the story when Jesus showed his power over the wind and waves on the Sea of Galilee. Jesus raised his arms and commanded the storm to be still. The wind and waves became calm. The disciples were amazed.
On Tuesday, 101 surfers hit a big wave and surfed into the Surf Shack in time to learn about how Jesus got wet, but for a different purpose. We studied the baptism of Jesus in Matthew 3:13-17 and John 1:29-34, learning that GOD LOVES. We were introduced to Jesus and his cousin, John the Baptist. The baptism of Jesus helps us understand God's amazing love for us. When John the Baptist talks about who Jesus is, he explains why God sent Jesus to be with us: because God loves us and wants to show love through us.
On Monday, we welcomed 113 surfers back to the Surf Shack. We studied Exodus 2:1-10 and learned that GOD HELPS. God used the courage, love, and determination of several women to rescue baby Moses from harm. We learned how these women helped another person in need, relying on God for guidance. No one actually saw God that day on the Nile River, but God was there, helping baby Moses by providing Miriam, his mother, and Pharaoh's daughter.
Our first night on Sunday kicked off with 104 surfers crashing the waves at our Surf Shack. We studied Genesis 1 and learned that GOD CREATES. The story of Creation shows God as the creator of our amazing world. We are part of that story. God made each of us in God's image. This means that every one of us reflects God's amazing attributes, including creativity and love. God wants us to live out God's creativity and love in the world.
VBS will be 6:30 to 8:30 each evening. Our theme this year is "Surf Shack". Come out and catch the wave of God's amazing Love.

Something Special for Kids
Many years ago, Sunnyside had a storybook phone line where kids could call in and listen to a Bible story usually narrated by Sister Ruth. Over the past several years, many have requested that this type of service be re-generated but times have changed and today's generation is video-linked more than ever. After much research, a better solution is now available. Many younger folks now have cell phones and the technology continues to get smarter every day. The Bible App for Kids is the newest member of the YouVersion family of apps and is completely free. It is an animated storybook app for smartphones and tablets with colorful illustrations and touch-activated animations. Check out this Bible App to give your kids some divine encouragement throughout their day. You will need to link this from the phone or tablet that you want to install the app on.
Boundless for Young Adults
Answers in Genesis
Think about what is most important for your children (and all children) to learn. We hope that you will agree that recognizing the Bible as God's written authority is one of those topics. You probably also recognize that our youth will learn conflicting information in the public school system. As Christian parents, we must equip our youth to defend their faith. Learn more about the challenges facing today's youth and what each of us can do to help by clicking on the link below.

Sunnyside now has nursery services available for our Sunday morning service time. A nursery volunteer will be in the narthex prior to the 11am service to introduce themselves and offer their services. Parents are welcome to use this service at any time. The volunteer will remain in the back area during the service for those little ones that want a change of scenery. Parents can also pick up a nursery pager for notification should the little one want to come back and listen to the rest of Randy's sermon. The nursery is located upstairs and offers a balcony view with sound for those wanting to see and listen to the service. The Nursery is available for toddlers up to age 4. Ages 5 through the 5th grade are welcome to attend Children's Church and those entering 6th grade are invited to join the regular church service.
